About Us

claude-moore-headshotThe Claude Moore Charitable Foundation was established in 1987 by Dr. Claude Moore, a successful physician and Northern Virginia landowner who left most of his fortune in trust for the purpose of enhancing educational opportunities and charitable giving throughout the Commonwealth of Virginia. Dr. Moore left his estate to the Foundation to increase its capacity for philanthropy.

The bulk of his estate consisted of real estate, most of which was located in Loudoun County, Virginia. The Moorefield property (where Moorefield Green HOA, Moorefield Square HOA, The Residences at Moorefield Villages, Westmoore HOA, and the Commercial Association West reside) was part of the real estate Dr. Moore left the Foundation, and it is named after Dr. Moore. Moorefield Station also bears his name. In order to support their charitable giving, the Foundation began selling portions of this land to developers to put up single-family homes, townhouses, condos and commercial developments. As a result, the Moorefield Station Conservancy, Inc., (“Conservancy”) was established to help preserve and maintain the community.

The Conservancy will eventually maintain several of the planned community parks, the sidewalks, and trees on many of the streets that lead to the Metro Station as well as many of the community trails that surround Moorefield. The Conservancy also established a design review committee which is responsible for ultimately reviewing, and approving or rejecting, any applications for changes from Moorefield homeowners or commercial residents. The Conservancy maintains this function to help preserve the pristine integrity of this transit and trail-oriented community.

As the Metro Station opens, the Conservancy expects that the community at Moorefield will continue to build and expand as time goes on. The Conservancy’s goal is to support these communities as they grow and to help them prosper.
